This survey class will introduce students to the field of luthierie (the construction and repair of stringed instruments) with a focus on electric guitar making. 

Leila Sidi, founder of TunaTone Instruments, will take us through her journey to become a luthier.  She will share how she came to found her handcrafted electric guitar shop, and discuss some of the barriers faced in this arena of woodcraft. 

Leila will walk students through the process of building an actual playable electric guitar.  Students will be introduced to the different tools, jigs, and woodworking skills used in the process of creating an electric guitar.

All skill levels welcome. No prerequisites. All you need is a computer, a good internet connection, and an interest in the overlap of music and woodworking!

All class times are in U.S. Eastern Time.


For the past 10 years, Leila Sidi has been studying woodworking and luthierie. Building mid-century inspired, high fidelity electric guitars under the name TunaTone Instruments, she focuses on environmental and design justice as it applies to her work.
