Creating scale models before building a piece of furniture or sculpture is invaluable (not to mention adorable!) in the success of a project. It can be creatively liberating, economical and ecologically sound.
In this class we’ll discuss why that is and get inspired by artists/woodworkers who make models. Included will be an introduction to architectural rulers and drawing accurately to scale.
Sarah will then demo various techniques and tricks to making successful scale models. A range of techniques will be shared so people with and without machine access can feel comfortable jumping into the practice.
All skill levels welcome. No prerequisites. All you need is a computer and a good internet connection!
WOO is a non-profit safe space for training underrepresented genders in our field. As such, enrollment is limited to non-binary, trans, and woman-identifying people over the age of 18.
Sarah Watlington is a woodworker and artist who finds the process of design as integral to a project's success as the execution. She is a graduate of the Krenov School of Fine woodworking in Ft. Bragg, CA and holds a BFA in design from the Design institute of San Diego. She is the project manager at Offerman Woodshop in Los Angeles where she designs and builds custom furniture. She teaches woodworking at Allied Woodshop.
