MIG welding (metal inert gas welding) is one of the most versatile arc-welding processes, and one of the easiest to learn when first getting started.
In this course, students will learn the step-by-step process of MIG welding mild steel, including proper safety attire, prepping material, setting up the machine, and some basic joinery methods.
All skills level welcome, especially beginners & folks just starting to explore their interest in metalwork. All you need is a computer and a good internet connection!
WOO is a non-profit safe space for training underrepresented genders in our field. As such, enrollment is limited to women, non-binary, and trans folks over the age of 18.
Born and raised in New York City, Sophie Glenn received her BFA in Sculpture at the State University of New York at Purchase, and her MFA from San Diego State University where she studied Furniture Design and Woodworking. She has also worked extensively as a metal fabricator and welder for independent makers and businesses across the country. Sophie recently completed a three-year residency at the Appalachian Center for Craft, and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sculpture at Mississippi State University.
